Only a few kilometres distant are the historical Lugares Colombinos, places intimately linked to Christopher Columbus and his voyages of discovery. Palos de la Frontera, the port from which Columbus three caravelles set said, bound for the New World; the Muelle de las Carabelas wharf and la Rábida Monastery are all silent witnesses to Columbus' feat. Moguer, with its rich monumental heritage is also nearby. Two examples of the wealth of Moguer's heritage are the Santa Clara Convent and the house of Nobel Prize for Literature Juan Ramón Jimenez, now a museum in his honour.
